The DIGGS - TYNES COMMUNITY PARK

The DIGGS - TYNES COMMUNITY PARK

This past Sunday, Oct. 5th, we officially named the Pelican Bay Park as the DIGGS - TYNES COMMUNITY PARK. An observance of this dedication was held at the entrance to the park on Sunday at 1 pm. There were many family members and friends of both Marvis Diggs &  Clifford Tynes present. Also assisting with the ceremony was Pastor Glyn Murphy of the LHH Church and Glen Oberg who represented the City Council. We so appreciate the years of effort and hard work of the numerous people of Pelican Bay who brought this park to fruition and have continued to help in maintaining it. So let's continue to make every effort to keep this area in good condition for the enjoyment of every family here in the 'Bay and take pride in what we have.[...]

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

The celebration date for National Night Out was observed on Tuesday, October 7th.  We had a great turnout. Many thanks to all (you know who you were) that worked so hard on getting this years' observance put together. We had a really good attendance, but it STILL could have been better.         We gave away lots of bike helmets to numerous youngsters - sure hope they WILL wear them. Parents, please be aware that a bike helmet is the single most effective safety device for reducing head injury & death from bike mishaps! And, we want to congratulate the TWO lucky youngsters who won a FREE BIKE: The boy's bike went to JAKE ALLEN and the girl's bike went to EMILIE MARINO.[...]

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?

Mike Lowery & his great group of guys has outdone themselves. Take a drive by City Hall and get a look at those very professional looking basketball posts (one at each end of the court)! Thanks to donations from some very involved citizens and the aforementioned hard work by Mike Lowery and his staff, we now have a much nicer and SAFER place for our citizens (young & older) to "shoot hoops".  Check it out and thank Mike & his guys when you see them - I am sure they would appreciate that.[...]

SPORTSMANS RALLY & BOAT WINNER

SPORTSMANS RALLY & BOAT WINNER

The Sportsmans Rally on the grounds of the LHH Church at Long Circle was a big success. Lots of people in attendance and great food was enjoyed by all. There were games, prizes, fun, food and fellowship with your friends & neighbors.  What more could one ask for - well, yes, there was that big whoppin' SKI BOAT to be won.                                       Well, here's the winner - Troy Diggs (on the left) with Pastor Glyn Murphy of the Lighthouse Harbor Church (on the right). Troy tells me he still is trying to come to the realization that he actually WON this boat. By the way, he has it safely locked away in one of the city's nice boat stalls! Not sure if he has slept in it yet though, the nights are a little warm inside that building![...]

BIG (HUGE) YARD SALE

BIG (HUGE) YARD SALE

Well, it came and went and it WAS A SUCCESS! It was a BIG yard sale, and it had a BIG turnout! Lots of money raised for the city to build our new Animal Control Shelter. Words will not be able to truly express how your city officials appreciate all the fabulous workers (volunteers all) who got out and made this all possible. Sure, it took a lot of effort, but we (pardon the Southern slang) GOT ER DONE! This sale was so big we spilled over into a second whole day on Sunday, the 3rd. HOORAY, and thanks again to all the volunteers as well as all those patrons who came out to get some great deals!                                                  ********************************************************** Saturday, August 2nd to be exact - a whopper of a YARD SALE!      All the fantastic donations that have been gathered from around this area will be on display for anyone & everyone to purchase! Way too much of a variety to even attempt to mention here - you will have to show up to find out.      The fun starts at 8am in the nice, tree-shaded area at the  North side of City Hall, 1300 Pelican Circle.     ALL the proceeds of this event will be used specifically to create a fantastic new dog pound for our city. This is something that has long been needed and has certainly been talked about for quite a while.     I have heard from reliable sources that you may even be able to purchase refreshments there as well.  [...]

LATEST CITY COUNCIL HAPPENINGS

LATEST CITY COUNCIL HAPPENINGS

Monday evening, June 10th, was our first City Council meeting with our new mayor, His Honor Bill Morley,  presiding. Several items were accomplished, among them the appointment of Sabra Swaim as Alderman Place 3 for the remainder of the term of office previously held by Bill Morley.  Glen Oberg was appointed Mayor Pro Tem.  The City also hired a new City Attorney, Warren Spencer, who was voted on and approved by the council.  Note that the City Council meetings have been changed to THE SECOND MONDAY of each month and, if necessary, a subsequent meeting would be on THE FOURTH MONDAY of the month. We also discussed and approved the City holding a Yard Sale fundraiser to reconstruct our animal shelter so it will meet required specifications.  This will result in significant cost savings to our Animal Control Department.  The Yard Sale is scheduled for Saturday, August 2nd, 2014, and will take place at 1300 Pelican Circle.  We are accepting donations for this Yard Sale.  Please contact City Hall if you wish to donate or for more information. [...]
